Daily Gratitude – Day 695

Today I Am grateful for a fun afternoon potluck gathering with some of my co-workers.

I Am also grateful for stumbling upon a local food pantry, Milagros Angels, and having the time to pitch in and help them set up – as well as to donate some food to them that I happened to have with me. The founder, Barbara Arroyo, was once homeless herself, and found herself supported by various charities until she was able to get herself back on her feet. Always grateful for what she had and what she received, she decided to pay it forward and set up her own food pantry, which now feeds people every 1st and 3rd Wednesday, right on the street behind Penn Station in Newark. The people who receive the food understand too that they are truly blessed.

I Am grateful further for all that I have. While helping out, one of the people waiting on line noticed I was a little chilly. It was cold and raining, and I explained to him that I was not prepared to be outside for long – I was simply walking to my car, and thought I’d be warm enough with what I had. He said, “All you need is a hoodie.” I told him I’d be okay, recognizing that what I was feeling was nothing compared to what many others experience, with no car or home to get to quickly. He explained that he does find himself out in the cold all night, night after night. I reminded him that his situation is temporary – he wasn’t born on the streets, and he won’t stay on the streets. I think I helped empower him to create a happier destiny. At least I hope he did.

Finally I Am grateful for allowing myself to continue to catch up on sleep, sleeping in an extra hour this morning, and taking a long, early nap.

And with that, I’m heading back to Dreamland…

Namaste,
Brian

1 Response to Daily Gratitude – Day 695

  1. Struggling a little with gratitude today. I was fired from a job as a tour guide because the woman who headed the group didn’t like me. I am however grateful I am getting paid my full fee and I didn’t have to work the full time. I’m grateful I’m spending Thanksgiving with my son and his family. I’m grateful my mammogram was ok. I’m grateful that several people from the tour called and told me I did a good job. I”m grateful I made it to the gym today and got to see some of the parade from the window. I’m grateful that because I was fired, I got to celebrate a friend’s birthday with her and I had a really good time. I’m actually grateful I was fired because it was not fun trying to shepherd 52 people through Times Square and environs. Crowd control is not pleasurable to me and now I don’t have to deal with it and I still get paid. I’m also grateful that even though I lost my keys and my insurance card yesterday, they can be replaced. I’m grateful that even though I forgot to put my lock on my locker at the gym, no one took anything and I found the lock and put it on.I’m just grateful I made it through yesterday in reasonable good spirits considering and that this acting teacher who was at my friend’s dinner party really seemed to like me and told me I was beautiful.
